Dia de Independencia de Mexico

Anniversary of the Independence of Mexico (Dia de la Independencia) is one of the most important and colorful civic and popular celebrations of the year. Throughout the month, the streets are full of tricolor adornments allusive to the national flag, restaurants prepare special menus with typical dishes of the season such as pambazos or chiles en nogada. 

Grito de Dolores (on the evening of September 15 ) and Aniversario de la Independencia (September 16) commemorate Father Miguel Hidalgo y Costilla’s Grito de Dolores — on September 16, 1810, in the village of Dolores, near Guanajuato. Hidalgo called for the end of Spanish rule in Mexico and this date has been officially declared Mexico’s National Independence Day (Dia de la Independencia).
